What Is Life Coaching?

"What is Life Coaching anyway?”
When I tell people I am a Life Coach I usually get one of two reactions, either they have no idea what it is or have heard of it but don't fully know the benefits. In recent years Life Coaching has become more known but because of the uniqueness of the Coaching process it's not surprising that people still have questions. So, what is it that I do?

What is a Life Coach?
Firstly, Life Coach does not mean life expert. I am in no way an expert on anyone’s life. I've simply been trained in a process that allows me to take people on a journey of discovering what they want and then helping them make/achieve their goals. I do this by asking lots of questions! Think of it as the ultimate accountability partner who only wants you to succeed and do it the way that works best for you.

Is coaching like counseling or mentoring?
In short, no. Counseling focuses more on healing from the past and coaching focuses on the present and the future. Mentoring is all about advice and teaching someone from your own personal experience whereas a Life Coach doesn't give advice but rather pulls out the potential in the individual allowing them to think for themselves. So, for counseling think healing, for mentoring think advice and for coaching think empowerment! None are better than the other, they just serve different purposes.

What are some reasons you would get a Life Coach?
Usually when I start coaching someone it’s because for one reason or another they feel stuck (As we all do at times). In saying that though I have coached people at many different ages and at different stages of life. Organization, time management, finances, and personal goals are all examples of topics that people typically call on for a life coach.
